Koh Samui Boutique Bliss At The Library

A few years ago I was strolling along Chaweng beach in Koh Samui, Thailand when I caught sight of a blood red swimming pool. I didn’t have time to have a look inside the property but I later found out this was a boutique design hotel called The Library.

Over October midterm break, Janene took her 6-year-old daughter for a stay at The Library and shares her review below….

How was the weather?
It was perfect every day, considering it was rainy season and I was a bit apprehensive about going at that time of year.  The sun shone all week except the day we left.

How did you book the trip?
I booked the hotel through Agoda and the air tickets online with Cathay Pacific.

The price included breakfast only and no airport transfers (that was extra)

How was the flight?
It is a direct flight from Hong Kong to Koh Samui which is a huge bonus.  The only mistake was I forgot to pre seat us and ended up sitting right at the back of the plane near the toilets on the way over – not great.  On the way back we sat in the middle of the aircraft and was fine.

How far is the Library from Koh Samui Airport?
The hotel was only max. 25 minutes from the airport.  I had arranged and booked a hotel transfer so the car was waiting for us when we arrived.  It was air-conditioned with cold towels and water inside!

What did you think of the Library?
I really liked the hotel. It suited us given we were traveling just the two of us.  I liked the fact it was a small boutique hotel – intimate and had a home from home feeling.

There is a great grassy area for kids to play on.

How was your room?
We stayed in a ground floor suite which was a great size.  I didn’t require or ask for any kids amenities in advance.

I would recommend The Bookmark Room for those looking to spoil themselves – right next to the pool, gym and easy access to all amenities.

How were the facilities?
The hotel has a beautiful red pool that we lay by everyday and swam. There was also a gym which I never got round to using even though I had full intentions to do so!

Unfortunately there is no kids club.

How was the beach?
There was a beach directly in front of us. It was well-kept and clean and we were able to swim.

Did you take any trips?
We did no trips or excursions.  I took my daughter to Coco Splash for a morning and she thoroughly enjoyed it.  I must say I had a bit of fun on some of the slides myself.

How was the food?
Every morning the hotel would organise breakfast on the beach.

We had great food at two restaurants; Saffron at the Banyan Tree and Krua in Bophut Fisherman’s Village

Every night on the beach hotel sets up for cocktails – some nights had a dj other nights a musicians playing. It was a real highlight to sit on the beach at sunset listening to music sipping a cocktail or two! When I reflect back in my stay & see the pics really enjoyed my time there!

Koh Samui - The LibraryHow was the staff?
I found the staff to be very pleasant, accommodating and very helpful.

I had mentioned to a staff member that I loved the coconut jam which we had at breakfast and the night before we left they had prepared & left 2 jars (coconut & pineapple) in my room for me to take home with me!! Lovely touch and small details like this that create wonderful fond memories of my stay.

How was the trip overall? Any tips?
We had a great trip.  Don’t be afraid to venture out of your resort.  I would love to go back to Koh Samui and would even consider returning to the Library.
