Phuket Hotel Review: The Residence Resort & Spa

Thailand’s Phuket is a hugely popular travel destination – certainly marked by the fact that I think I’ve got more Phuket posts than anywhere else!  To add to the mix, a review from my lovely friend Felinda who visited the Residence Resort & Spa Retreat with her family.

Where did you stay?

The Residence Resort & Spa, near Bangtao Beach

When did you stay?

6th November 2013 – 5 nights

How many of you?

7 adults, 1 toddler (27 months), 1 baby (3 months)

How did you book the hotel?

Directly with the hotel; we were given a 10% discount for paying up front. We booked a 3BR duplex villa and got upgraded to a 3BR private pool villa (the private pool villa is bigger in size, both villa types came with a pool)

Was it a package included with flights?

Were transfers to hotel included?

No, we were charged THB 1000 per way

What did you think of the room?

Good sized rooms with plenty of storage space. You could put 2 baby cots in 1 of the rooms and still have space to dance around if you want!   Ensuite master bedroom and a shared bathroom / toilet for 2 other rooms.

What were the leisure facilities like?

  • In-villa pool with our own deck chairs
  • DVD player + TV + Sound system
  • Fully equipped kitchen
  • Towels were changed daily
  • Kitchen was really well equipped – pots/pans/cutlery/crockery which was really helpful in preparing meals for the toddler when we needed or just late night munchies
  • Free shuttle to the beach

How were the restaurants?

We only had breakfast at the restaurant – good food and great service. We also arranged for a barbecue dinner at our villa: food was once again excellent. If mosquitoes tend to ‘feast’ on you, it will be better to eat indoors. I had 10 bites in less than 30 mins sitting on our rooftop that night – the mossies loved me the best as the rest were totally fine.

Were the staff friendly?

Very friendly and service was fantastic.

Would you go back?

Felinda’s Top Tips for Phuket

  • Hire a car as taxis in phuket can be expensive. A car also gives you more flexibility, we did supermarket runs and etc. We rented an SUV from http://www.mobilecarrent.com/. This is apparently the newest car rental company in Phuket and has a nice new fleet of cars. 10% discount for paying up front. Our car arrived 1 hour after we turned up at the villa – prompt service
  • Rent your baby equipment – stroller, baby rocker, play mat. We used http://www.phuketbabyrentals.com/english/, reasonable rates and nice / clean equipment
