Barbados with an 8 mth old baby

My friend Laura recently took their 8 mth old baby for her first holiday to Barbados.  Seriously, I’m jealous of an 8 mth old baby now?!  Enjoy her trip review below:

Who:  Laura, John & 8 mth old Zoe
Where:  Bougainvillea Beach Resort, south side of Barbados
When:  December 2012
Booked through:  Caroline Dobson at Trailfinders

Barbados is a great destination for people travelling with babies from the UK.  Time difference is only 4 hours so it wasn’t too bad on jet lag either way (definitely worse on the return though).  The flight is only 8 hours so manageable.  The outbound flight is daytime so you feel  you have the energy to cope.  The return departs Bridgetown approx. 6:30pm so almost baby’s bedtime.  Zoe only slept for 3.5 hours on the way home but still remained relatively calm.

We stayed at the Bougainvillea Beach Resort on the south side of Barbados.  Not sure if the south is as popular as the West but it is still lovely and has the added bonus for those travelling with young children of only being a 10-15 min transfer from the airport.

Our hotel was relatively small but again we found this to be a plus with a little was as it was family orientated and all of the staff LOVED babies.  The cot they supplied in the room was clean and more than adequate.  We did take our own bedding so it smelled of home but if I were to go again, I wouldn’t worry.

The swimming pool is not brilliant for those with kids aged 3-6 but for the under 3s it’s absolutely fine as you are in with them anyway.  I would definitely recommend this resort to a family taking an infant away to Barbados.
