Child friendly serviced apartment in Sydney – The Adina

Perhaps you’re off to Sydney next weekend to see the rugby?  Or planning a visit as part of a bigger Australian adventure?  In which case, if you’re travelling with kids, it’s always worth checking out a serviced apartment over a traditional hotel.

Here Llinos shares her review of the Adina Apartment Hotel in the cool neighbourhood of Surrey Hills:

The Adina

Who stayed:  Me, Christian and Astrid (17 months).

When were you there:  February 2013.

What was weather:  Low 20s and overcast.  Quite cool for that time of year which was fine as we’d enjoyed a sunny beach break in Byron Bay before arriving in Sydney.

How did you book apartment?  Online through their website

What did the rate include?  2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment with living room, kitchen (including washing machine).

What did you think of the apartment?  Pretty spacious and well equipped.  Good location.  Not in one of the main tourist areas but in a busy neighbourhood with loads of restaurants cafes and shops.

Were there any shared facilities?  Yes, outdoor swimming pool.  I believe there was a gym but didn’t check it out…

What stood out for you?  The staff organised a babysitter one evening for us at short notice and we were really pleased with the service (though it was expensive, like most things in Australia at the moment for the overseas visitor due to the strong AU$).

We had requested a travel cot during the booking process and this was already set up when we arrived.  We were also able to hire a high chair for a small fee per day during our stay.

Bill’s, famous Sydney cafe, was right underneath the building and so we had breakfast there a couple of times.

There was a children’s playground almost directly opposite the building which was perfect for our little one.  We didn’t actually use the swimming pool as the weather was quite cool, and we’d had plenty of beach and pool time previously on our trip, but it would have been great if the weather was hot.

Anything you didn’t like?  We weren’t offered any help with our many bags when we arrived and there was a mix up with the taxi booking for the airport on the day we were leaving, but otherwise the apartment and service were good.

How was location?  Having visited Sydney many times before we didn’t feel the need to be in the main tourist areas so this was great for us.  Loads of eating out options and close to plenty of shopping.

We would definitely return
