Five Star in Fethiye – Hillside Beach Club Review

The Turkish town of Fethiye is becoming increasingly popular as a tourist destination, with over 600,000 British tourists alone visiting during the summer months.  Whilst its winters can get cool, you’ll find sunshine from April to October.  Why not combine it with a trip to Istanbul, only an hours flight away….  I’ll stop dreaming now and hand over to Lisa to tell you all about her recent trip to Turkey.

Who: Lisa, husband Dan, Macy (5 mths), Emma (2), mother in law

Where: Hillside Beach Club, Fethiye – Turkey
When: 10 days in June (weather was great although getting bit too hot towards the end)

Holiday Booking
Thomson Package booked through travel agent including flight and hotel.

Direct flight with Thomson from Manchester, UK to Dalaman International Airport

Airport Transfer
For our outbound we paid for a private transfer.  However, a top tip is to save your pennies and opt for Thomson’s regular resort bus.  As the Hillside Beach Club is so remote, it’s unlikely you’ll have any other stops apart from your resort.

The Room
For our family of four, we booked a Superior Large Deluxe Room with Balcony.  However, our travel agent mentioned that if you have more than one child, you will no longer be able to do this and need to book the next room size up, the Superior Family Room.

The rooms are gorgeous, each individual buildings and set into the hillside.  The room has a large balcony which doubles as a lounge with table and chairs.  We had the girls in our bedroom with two travel cots.  They also provided an electric steriliser in the room or you can have the restaurant sterilise for you.

We were on Full Board Plus which included all meals, soft drinks, wine and beer (at lunch).  They also served watermelon by the pool at 11am and afternoon tea at 4pm.

There is a main a la carte restaurant, adult only restaurant and beach restaurant (although dinner is only served from 9pm onwards).  The food is of amazing quality.

If you are travelling with a baby requiring puree, there’s even a person at the buffet who has a selection of fresh fruit and veg and will puree it for you!  There is also disposable bibs, plastic cups and plates available.

The resort is set on a pebbly beach and there is a separate ‘adult only’ section and a silent beach. There are also rafts that you can step out on to sunbathe.

There is a main pool with further pools in the kids club.  The main pool has a shallow area which is good for kids.

In addition to the fitness centre, they run all day activities from water polo to aquarobics.  For water sports you have to pay extra.

At night there’s brilliant entertainment from shows to ‘movie premieres’ on the beach.

Kids Club
The Kids Club is marketed from the age of 4.  We took our 2 year old Emma and stayed with her.  There are also staff available who will babysit during the day at the kids club in addition to at night.  They have lots of incredible activities going on all day.

There are two pools in the Kids Club, one shaded by a huge awning and the other with water slides. The lifeguard is fantastic, rushing over to give lotion, towels and armbands as soon as you get to the pool.

We would definitely return.  To make the most of it, we would go back when the kids are older as the entertainment and activities are so good.

Make sure you realise the resort is fairly isolated in that you can’t walk out anywhere. However there are some restaurants a 10 minute taxi ride away.

On the downside, like it’s name suggests, the Hillside is built into a hill and therefore involves lots of stairs.  There is an outdoor lift but you might want to request a room with easier access.  There is also no lift up to the main restaurant although they will help you with the buggy.

What makes this place stand out is the service and value for money.  The staff are amazing and as they all live onsite during the season, they take the time to get to know you and the family.  We paid GBP 7,000 which included 5 flights (one infant), 2 rooms and full board for ten days.
