Hiring a farmhouse in Australia: a week with the kids at Grovebrook Farm, NSW

As someone who has been sticking to the tried and tested route of Thai villas for the last few years, I loved hearing about my friend’s Christmas at a farmhouse near Sydney.

Who:  Anneke, husband & son Cillian (14 mths) + friends with their 3yo daughter
When: From 20 Dec 2012 for 2 weeks (1 week in farmhouse, 1 week in Sydney)

Flights
Special deal through Virgin Website on Upper Class from Hong Kong to Sydney

Farmhouse Booking
Endless internet surfing brought me to http://www.southcoastholidays.com.au where I found Grovebrook Farm in Berry (90 miles south of Sydney).  Make sure you book at least 3 months in advance during peak season.  Southcoast Holidays were efficient and easy to deal with.

Car Hire
Booked car through Hertz which we picked up at Sydney Airport.  The car came with a child carseat.

The farm is close to the town of Berry, a 3 hour drive from Sydney.  It consists of 2 properties, the main house and a cottage, both set on 19 acres.  If you hire the main house, you also have use of the cottage which has several bedrooms and a games room.

The house is modern inside with a big kitchen, dining room/living room.  There is another separate living room.  Upstairs are 4 bedrooms (King, Queen, Twin & Single) and 3 bathrooms (of good standard).Grovebrook Farm Lounge

Kid Equipment
South Coast Holidays could have provided travel cots but we brought our own.  The Farmhouse had a high chair, toys and books for kids, safety gates and double windows, with mosquito nets.  They also provided suncreem, washing powder and bug spray.

Facilities
The Farm has a fenced outdoor pool (not heated), BBQ area with decking and child safety gates.  Next to the grass is a wooden play area with slide & swings.  Grovebrook Farm 3Additional outdoor firepit.

Berry and Beyond…
The farmhouse was so nice that mainly we relaxed there, especially as Cilly was still napping in the mornings. Our friends took their 3yo to a waterpark, Jamberoo which was 40 mins away.

The house is a 2 min drive to Berry, a quaint little town with nice cafes.  Highly recommend the Berry Hotel for food.

There are lovely beaches only a 15 min drive away with cafes and playgrounds.

In Conclusion
This was a fantastic family friendly holiday, perfect for relaxing with the kids.  I would definitely use South Coast Holidays again and also return to Grovebrook Farm

Southcoast NSW is a wonderful destination. We stayed at a farm-stay Mowbray Farm about an hour south of Sydney that was beautiful too.
