Travels Without My Kids….

If you’re wondering why I haven’t been endlessly blogging about family travel tips recently, it’s because I escaped on a family holiday to Ibiza.  And when I say family, I mean my siblings in law – we collectively ditched the kids and decided to have an adult only 3 day mini break.  Did I miss the kids? Sort of. Would I have wanted them there?  Not a chance and here’s why:

  • I got to pack selfishly e.g. the suitcase was full of unnecessary dresses, belts, makeup and shoes as opposed to the one pair of flip flops I normally have room for
  • I wasn’t fretting about turning up to the airport early and actually had time to wander aimlessly around Duty Free
  • The earliest I got out of bed was 10am
  • I read an entire book
  • I could get drunk in the afternoon
  • Instead of spending a meal cutting up food, cajoling a child to eat their vegetables and chasing small people around a restaurant, I could enjoy my own plate of food
  • I could spend a leisurely hour having a shower and getting ready for a night out
  • I could have a night out

I think all parents deserve a break from their kids now and again.  What’s the longest you’ve been away without the kids for?  Where did you go?

I’ve managed a whole long weekend without my daughter – so a mere three days in two years! It was fantastic though, much as I love travelling with her. I’m hoping as she gets older, I might be able to sneak in a few more trips as well.
