Phuket Villa Review: Laguna Grande Residence

From my home of Hong Kong, Phuket is a very easy weekend getaway serviced by airlines such as Dragonair, Thai Airways and Air Asia.  I recently ditched the kids and hubby for a girls weekend away with some close friends who are leaving Hong Kong.

We wanted to keep things cheap-ish and after much trawling on Agoda, Openroomz and Zuji, realised that the way forward was to hire a villa.  We ended up getting a fabulous 4 bed villa in Phuket’s Laguna area for USD $450 per night.

Getting There
Don’t forget if you are travelling on the Airport Express in a group (there were 5 of us), you can buy discounted group tickets at the ticket desk.

We flew with Dragonair on one of their ancient planes so if you have your kids with you, bring entertainment!  Travelling on my own (as I rarely do), I enjoyed my own entertainment of alcohol and a snooze!

Phuket is warm all year round with monsoon from September to October.  We went in June and had glorious sunshine with a few clouds.

Villa Booking
I found the villa through Phuket Villa Rentals through which I was contacted by PIPS Phuket who manage the property and were very efficient.  I chose our particular villa as it was well priced (USD $450 for 4 bed) and we weren’t bothered about being by the beach.  It’s always worth asking if there’s an early bird/last-minute booking discount.

Villa Transfer
This was not included in the price of the villa but we paid THB 1000 for a van to pick the 5 of us up.  The transfer is approx. 20 minute drive from the airport

Laguna Grande Residence 57/5
Our villa was set within greenery, overlooking Phuket’s Laguna golf course.  As we were only there for 4 days, I didn’t pay extra for a chef but the option is available.

There are four living areas including a main sitting area, TV lounge, dining room and outdoor dining room.

The villa is spacious and airy with a large pool (15 x 5m) and 4 sunloungers.  At the far end is a sala with daybed to while away the afternoon.

The villa has 4 bedrooms; upstairs is a Master with ensuite, and then a double room and room with twin beds that share a bathroom.  Downstairs is another bedroom with a bathroom adjacent.  Unfortunately my pictures of the bedrooms are awful so I advise you to have a look on the website instead!

The Beach
Bangtao Beach is approx. 10 minute drive away.  We were too lazy to actually g on this particular trip (!) but I know it well as it’s where I spend most Christmases. It’s a lovely stretch of beach with some nice cafes and clean water.

Overall

This villa was perfect for us as we weren’t looking to do much other than relax and chill out in the villa. However, if you like a central location where you can walk to nearby shops, restaurants then this place is not for you as it’s a good 10 minute ride to the nearest town.  The villa is part of the Laguna complex, served by free shuttle buses that can take you to the various resort hotels of Banyan Tree and Angsana.

The villa is on two levels and I would be wary of toddlers running around unaccompanied upstairs.  On the plus side, the pool is surrounded by lovely grassy areas that would be fun for kids.
