Tips on Getting to Hong Kong International Airport

Hong Kong is a fantastic hub to travel from.  Hong Kong Airport is easy and relatively cheap to access.  There are several different options you can use to get to the airport depending on where you’re coming from and budget.

HONG KONG EXPRESS

Airport ExpressThe clean and spacious Airport Express train is the best way to travel to and from Hong Kong Airport.  The train takes 24 mins from downtown Hong Kong and departs at 10 minute intervals.  The timetable is available here   One way ticket prices per adult are HKD$100 from Hong Kong and HKD$90 from Kowloon.

FREE SHUTTLE TO THE AIRPORT EXPRESS!
To make your journey to the Airport Express even easier, they also have free shuttle buses from most of the major hotels.  Simply show your Airport Express ticket or Airline ticket to board.

ONLINE DISCOUNT!

Tickets are available to buy at all Airport Express stations or you can save money and buy online in advance here

GROUP DISCOUNT!
If you are travelling in a group (2, 3 or 4 people), make sure you take advantage of the Group Discount.  You can buy this at any Airport Express Customer Service but ticket only valid on day of issue only.

IN TOWN CHECK IN!
If you buy a ticket for the Airport Express, you can also use their in-town check in services at Hong Kong and Kowloon station.  Be sure to check whether your carrier allows this here

TAXIS

If you’re travelling with kids, suitcases & strollers you may want to opt for a taxi (approx. HKD$300 from Central).  If you don’t want to rely on flagging one down on the day of travel, call in advance on 2861 1011 to reserve one (small extra charge). Taxi drivers also sometimes add $5 per piece of luggage.

PRIVATE CAR / LIMOUSINE SERVICE

A slightly swankier option is to hire a private car and rates vary depending on which car you choose.  If you’re travelling in a big group, you might find a minivan works out as cheap as getting several taxis.

Some private car hire companies will also provide a Child Car Seat (rare for Hong Kong).  China Car Service will add one in the car for a surcharge of US$25

PUBLIC BUS

Numerous public buses can bring you from your destination to Hong Kong Airport.  This is probably the cheapest way to get to the airport with fares as low as HKD$48 from Hong Kong Island

I’ve never been on the Hong Kong Express but looks like it would be a really good option for families – clean and spacious. Only been in a taxi and wow — they know how to drive. LOL!
