Singapore family friendly luxury at the Mandarin Oriental

A great choice for a weekend getaway or a stopover destination, Singapore offers family friendly fun from the Aquariums and Theme Parks on Sentosa to gorging on delicious cheap hawker fare.  If you’re looking for a luxury family friendly hotel then the Mandarin Oriental (even its name evokes mega luxe) could be for you.  Marisa spent a few days there with her 10 month old son and husband.

Where:  Mandarin Oriental, Singapore
When:  February 2013 (right after Chinese New Year).  We were even able to catch the Chinese New Year parade.  The weather was hot and humid with a passing rain shower for a few minutes each day.

Hotel Booking

Flight Booking
Booked on Singapore Airlines.  We requested a baby bassinet seat.  The bassinet was small and the airline has strict rules that the child must lie down in the bassinet while zippered in.  There was no way my active 10 month old was going to lay in there so we had them remove the bassinet.  The upside is that the seat is in the bulkhead of the plane which allowed more leg space for us!

Airport Transfer
The hotel is an easy 20 minute ride from the airport.

The Hotel

MO Singapore Baby PoolThe staff were so accommodating!  They upgraded us to a Junior Suite with a ton of rom.  The room was extremely clean and actually pretty child friendly for my 10 month crawler.  The bathroom was very large with a separate shower and bath.  They had a proper cot on wheels which they made up with fresh linens in front of me.  Housekeeping saw that I was unpacking baby bottles and ran to get me a bottle sterilizer.  Fresh fruit was delivered to our door daily at no extra cost.

MO Restaurants
There are several restaurants to choose from including one at the pool.  We were too busy to dine inside the hotel.

Family Friendly?
Very!  The pool was amazing and there were lots of kids. They had several areas where my 10 month old could stand and splash around in, not to mention the awesome baby pool which has shooting fountains of water!

Things to do in Singapore
We went to the Singapore Zoo which is an absolute must for kids (and for adults). We walked through the Botanic Gardens and it was so nice to see so much greenery!  On our last day we visited Gardens by the Bay which is new, with some areas still under construction.  Gardens By the Bay SingaporeThey have lawns and gardens for the kids to run around in, and several different food options, a great outing for an afternoon or longer.

Top Tips
Singapore is such a stroller friendly city.  I was able to push my son just about everywhere!  What a relief not to have to carry him all day in the carrier as the heat can really get to you.  We also had no problem finding a highchair for our son during mealtimes as every restaurant we visited seemed to have one in stock.

We would definitely go back to Singapore and the Mandarin Oriental, what a wonderful place to visit as a family.
