Luxurious Family Trip To Cornwall

No sooner than she was back from her trip to Devon, my friend Nicola was off down south again to Cornwall.  Along with another two families, they had a fantastic weekend at the five-star luxury Retallack Resort & Spa.  Over to you, my fellow Nicola!
Cornwall - Karayannis Family
It took about 5 hours to drive to Cornwall from London. We got up at 4.30am and drove direct with a quick breakfast stop! On the way home we stopped a couple of times to break up daytime journey. Overall the journey was fine.
Our Hotel
We stayed at Retallack Resort & Spa in a 6 bed house with 2 other families.  Each bedroom had an ensuite bathroom and there were two huge living rooms (we turned one into elyssa’s bedroom), kitchen, dining area, utility room.

There was also a hot tub outside and bbq.
The house came with one travel cot, high chair, steriliser, potty, changing mat etc.  To hire more we were recommended a company called ‘babes and bikes’ but we just took our own stuff.
Facilities
There are great amenities on site – lovely pool, with shallow kids bit and changing rooms had play pen and kids toiletries.  There was an indoor soft play area and an outdoor playground with a ‘flying fox’.
We used the onsite creche for the twins a couple of times which was £10 for 2 hours (mornings only for 0-3).   The creche has lovely staff and lots of toys for kids to play with.  The hotel offered good value babysitting – £9 per hour and she looked after 6 kids for that!
Also onsite at retallak was ‘flow rider’ – Cornwall’s only simulated ‘wave’.

Dining
There is a lovely restaurant onsite called the Green Room, the chef won masterchef in 2008.  Amazing food and good value, better
than jamie oliver’s sea view ’15 restaurant’ in watergate bay which we went to one night.
Things to do in the local area
  • Beaches! – beautiful sandy ones (harlym, treyarnon, rock), great waves (polzeath), rock pools (little fistral).Cornwall - rock pools
  • A visit to padstow for rick stein’s fish and chips and the lobster museum.
  • You can also get a boat over to ‘rock’ from padstow but we didn’t get round to that (just drove).
  • The camel trail bike ride is also lovely – we did that on a previous pre kids holiday but apparently you can hire bikes with seats for kids
  • We went to ‘dairy land farm’ for great kids soft play, farm (‘pat a pet’), tractor rides etc.

  • Bedruthan Steps Hotel for a special kids early dinner (£7 for kids 3 course meal) followed by in-house soft play
