New Mexico Cuisine Roundup (Green Chile Food Porn)

What drives people to travel is a very personal thing.  For me, I love the idea of escaping, experiencing new cultures and occasionally relaxing (it used to be all about the relaxing until I had kids).  For my husband, it’s FOOD.  Whilst I plan the trips from our hotel stays to the activities we’ll do each day, he’s devouring reviews on Chowhound and TVfoodmaps to figure out where we are going to eat.

The 2012 Texas BBQ trail was difficult to beat.  2013’s Colorado threw in a wings challenge, mountain pie and yet more BBQ.  I’ll be honest, New Mexico took a while to reel us in (food-wise).  But now we know what we like, we’ll be smothering that green chile on everything.  Here are the highlights:

Good old BBQ from Dannys in Carlsbad

Sopapilla - mouthwatering deep fried pastry stuffed with meat and smothered in cheese.. yes yes yes!

This is my new appetiser of choice - green chile strips! (The Range, Bernalillo)

Let’s not forget the lowlights:

Eurgh, why?

I'll admit we bought this. I'm half ashamed yet half excited

I lived in NM for a year and my boyfriend is from there. Green chili is definitely one of the highlights but it looks like you may have missed out on some great places! Always a reason to return:)
