Xmas/New Year in Villa Saitaan, Phuket – Thailand

This was our second Xmas/New Year break at Villa Saitaan, a villa complex near Bangtao Beach, Phuket.  We were a party of 6 adults and 2 kids (3 yrs old and 1 yr old)

I did the not so sensible trick of booking through a random mystery villa company i found on the internet.  This proved slightly worrying when their HK address didn’t appear to exist when trying to make payment.  But we had some lengthy dealings on the phone where we were reassured and decided it was legit.  I would use Paul at Asian Luxury Villas again as he was very helpful BUT he did mess up our initial airport transfers (in that nobody came to pick us up)

Make sure you find out exactly what’s included in your villa reservation e.g. chef, regular maid service, airport transfers, number of sunloungers, provision of baby equipment e.g. high chair, baby cot.  It’s also worth negotiating a discount.

The Villa
Villa Saitaan 2 is a privately owned 4 bed villa. The owner is an Australian music mogul who uses it every few months so the place has a very lived in feel with all his nick nacks (signed photo of Bette Midler anyone?), books, DVDs and even a Christmas tree.  The villa website sets out the exact details and floor plans but in short:

  • A big master bedroom with an adjoining study (you could easily sleep someone in there)
  • Guest villa with lounge area and ensuite
  • 2 Twin bedrooms each with ensuite

The pool is a great size with a jacuzzi and a sala adjoining.

There is also an outdoor bar area, perfect for afternoon G&Ts.

What I love about having  your own villa is the space to lounge about and this villa has a great living room with a comfy sofa and big TV.

Wow, we barely left the villa.  The onsite chefs are fantastic and cook up a storm.  The cost of the chef was included in the price and you pay them daily for the ingredients.

Baby Facilities
The Villa Manager provided 2 high chairs and also a choice of baby cot.  There was a big box of pool/beach toys.  I didn’t need to use it this year but the kitchen had a microwave.

The villa is approx 5 mins by taxi to the nearest beach, Bangtao.  A lovely stretch, not too overpopulated with the big resorts and some nice restaurants, beach shops etc.  You are also a 5 minute walk to the local high street of Cherng Talay with has a great selection of restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacy, bank and shops.

My Phuket Eating Recommendations….

  • The stylish trio of BAKE (for coffee and cake), FLAME (amazing rotisserie chickens, burgers and kebabs and PASTA (!) in Cherng Talay
  • Thai food with a twist at Tatonka in Cherng Talay
  • Weekly beach BBQ at Catch on Surin Beach
  • I don’t want to give too much away as it’s SUCH a fun night but book a babysitter and grab a table for dinner at Ka Jok See.  This place is small and books months in advance
