Check-InQantas planes
This was painful as there were not many staff behind the check-in counters.  We were also unaware that they have introduced a policy of 23kg max baggage allowance per bag.  As some of our bags were overweight and we had to open the suitcases and redistrubute our things.  In Economy, you are allowed to check in 1 suitcase each and 1 child car seat.  They also let us check in Evie’s scooter which we put in a plastic bag.

All fine, no problems

We had priority boarding as we were with a child.  The plane was an Airbus A330 with 2-4-2 configuration.  The seat was not that great.

The TVs had video on demand with a reasonable selection, however not as good as Singapore or Emirates.

This was a night flight and we were given dinner and breakfast.  However, we had forgotten to preorder a kids meal for Evie and they didn’t have any spare.

On the return leg, Perth to Hong Kong, Evie was given a Kids Pack.  This was pretty good with pencils, stickers, etchasketch and word games.

Staff were reasonably friendly

In Conclusion….
Qantas is an average airline which lacks the finesse of a Cathay or Singapore.

The key to a good flight with a child is to bring your own entertainment e.g. iPad loaded up with all their favourite games and shows.  We always bring her Trunki packed with toys but she never even opens it!  The Trunki is more useful as a way to transport our daughter through the airport and also a seat for long queues.  Lastly, always pack a spare pair of clothes for your child!
