Toys to take on a summer vacation ages 3 and under

When I travel with the kids, I’m looking for portable, lightweight, easy to pack toys that will keep them occupied for as long as possible.

We recently spent 10 days at a villa in Thailand over the Xmas/New Year period.  Lucky for the kids (1 yo and 3 yo) they got given some great, vacation friendly Xmas presents that I will be packing on my upcoming travels:

  • You can’t go wrong with an Aquadoodle, a lightweight mat with a water filled pen.  Draw as much as you want using water!  The picture below is of the Classic Mat but you can also buy a Travel N Doodle from Amazon here
  • Inflatable pool toys; a rubber ring, inflatable car for baby (one below bought in Wanchai market, Hong Kong)
  • Rubber ducks.  Great for the pool, bath and beyond
  • If your child shows mermaid like ability, buy them some Dive Rings to pick up off the bottom of the pool
  • Hours of fun with stacking cups.  Build towers, put things in the cups, throw the cups
  • Lightweight wooden puzzles e.g. this Melissa & Doug Farmyard Puzzle
  • You don’t need me to tell you that books go a long away.  My ballet obsessed 3 year old loved her noisy musical Swan Lake book and my 1 year old loves these pack of mini Peppa Pig books
  • Stickers, paper, crayons.  Make sure the stickers are easy to peel off though or you’ll be sat there for hours playing stickers too….
  • A big bag of plastic fake food!  Hours of fun playing pretend shops, restaurants….
