The magic of travel blackout: Review of Cot SnoozeShade and Gro Anywhere Blind

Let’s take a minute to acknowledge the wondrous invention that is travel blackout!

I’ve stayed in so many hotel rooms where the curtains don’t quite cover the window or wanted to put the travel cot in the hotel bathroom but light streams through the skylight at 6am.  We are on holiday and we all want our children to sleep as long as humanly possible.  For someone who used to pack black paper and tape, travel blackout is now a holiday essential.

Gro Blind and Cot SnoozeShade

Meet the Gro Anywhere Blind and the SnoozeShade Travel Cot!

Room with Travel Blackout

In our room, I used the Gro Blind to cover the annoying blue light on aircon unit and covered the travel cot with the SnoozeShade

Gro Anywhere Blind

Brought to you by the Grobag people, the Gro Anywhere blind is a big piece of blackout measuring 200 x 130cm with suckers.

Gro Anywhere Blind

The suckers are evenly spread around the edges and allow for easy suction onto glass.  Beneath the sucker, there’s a drawstring to adjust the size of the blind which then fixes into place with a button.

The Blind is made of 100% polyester and the external side is decorated with a star pattern.

It packs into a neat travel bag which weighs 774g and won’t take up too much space in your luggage.
The blind is hugely versatile and you can use it at home or on holiday.  I also think this is the perfect product for grandparents who refuse to pander to their children’s whims that they must have blackout curtains in the kids bedroom!

In Hong Kong, the Gro Blind is available for HKD$439 at:
Mothercare
Bumps to Babes
Toys ‘r’us
Outside of Hong Kong, you can buy from the usual online retailers

SnoozeShade for Travel Cots

Ever pushed a stroller with your black pashmina dangling off it, desperately trying to get your baby to sleep?  Well SnoozeShade cleverly came up with an award winning sun and sleep shade that fits all single strollers.  Then they kept inventing and released the SnoozeShade for Travel Cots.

Travelcot Snoozeshade

If you are sharing a hotel room with a baby, this product is your new best friend.

Made of a breathable blackout material, it comes in one size to fit all popular travel cots and also a standard cot that fits 120cm x 60 cm mattress.

The cover is attached to the cot using velcro strips.  You can then adjust the shade with zips and velcro to suit your baby’s needs.  For a small baby who isn’t sitting up, you can easily fully zip up the top.  I tested it on a mobile 15 mth old and she was actually fine with me zipping the top panel closed.  Then once she was asleep, I would unzip it halfway so she could see in the morning.  An extra bonus is that it also protects from insects.

It folds up into a portable travel bag and weighs just over 1000g.

The SnoozeShade Travel Cot retails for HKD$856 and is available from:
Mothercare
Bumps to Babes
Ourbaby

If you are not in Hong Kong, you can find it at all the usual online retailers
